The South is where unapologetic Black culture defines political power.
The South was co-founded in 2017 by Angela Peoples and Kevin Banatte. Collectively, we have over 20 years of experience leading digital and grassroots organizing campaigns. As business partners, co-parents, and creatives working for social justice, it is the practice of living unapologetically black that gives us the confidence and fuel to produce streetwear and campaigns. The goal is to create content that helps our audience live their politics, and to speak truth to power.

Notable Work & Collaborations

In response to the need for increased capacity for digital and remote organizing, The South is partnering with the Meyer Foundation to coordinate Landing Digital: A Digital Organizing and Coaching Program. This online training and coaching program is intended to teach leaders of grassroots organizations how to organize and facilitate engaging experiences online, and to utilize digital platforms and tactics in campaigns.
Black Womxn For
Black Womxn For is an organizing collective of Black women, gender nonconforming and non-binary ppl that has shifted the narrative about Black voters and Black politics in the 2020 Democratic Presidential primary The South was proud to support this effort and the leadership of Black Womxn organizers.
